Forming and Pouring a Concrete Driveway and Garage Slab

Transform Your Home with Hart Concrete Construction

When it comes to enhancing your home’s curb appeal and functionality, few projects make as significant an impact as a new concrete driveway or garage slab. Whether you’re a homeowner, real estate investor, construction company, or home builder in Anderson, this post will provide insights into how Hart Concrete Construction can bring your vision to life.

A Showcase of Our Recent Project

We recently had the pleasure of completing a challenging yet rewarding project in Ivy, South Carolina. Over the course of a few weeks, we transformed our client’s property by forming, pouring and finishing a huge concrete driveway and a 1200 Square foot garage slab.

The Concrete Driveway

Site Preparation

The first step was preparing the site for the new driveway. We graded and leveled the area to ensure proper water drainage. The driveway was designed to be 4 inches thick and spanned an impressive 4000 square feet. Proper grading and leveling are crucial to prevent water pooling and ensure the longevity of the concrete.

Forming and Pouring

Our client had a specific shape in mind for their driveway, so we carefully formed it to match their vision. Preparing to pour 49 yards of concrete is not a small project, but our team was up to the task. Once the concrete was poured, we finished it with a brushed broom finish, giving it a clean, non-slip surface.

Saw Cutting Joints

To help prevent cracking, we saw cut joints into the driveway. This step is essential for maintaining the structural integrity of the concrete over time, as it allows the material to expand and contract without causing damage.

The Garage Slab

Site Preparation

Weeks later, we returned to prepare for the 1200 square foot garage slab. Just like with the driveway, proper grading was essential. We also planned for an 18-inch footing for the building location, ensuring a stable foundation.

Pouring and Finishing

In addition to the garage slab, we poured two aprons with a 1-inch fall away from the building. This slight incline helps direct water away from the structure, protecting it from potential water damage. Our team ensured that the slab was perfectly level and smooth, providing a durable base for the garage.
